Why Good Security is Essential
On average, an unprotected, brand-new Windows PC is hacked within 20 minutes of being connected to the Internet. In 2008, it was estimated that there would be 500,000 new pieces of malware (viruses, Trojans, spyware etc) designed to attack Windows PCs.
With reference to
IBM's 2009 Internet security report, IBM X-force director Kris Lamb stated:
"There is no such thing as safe browsing today and it is no longer the case that only the red light district sites are responsible for malware. We've reached a tipping point where every website should be viewed as suspicious and every user is at risk."
Where appropriate, we set up and manage devices that are less vulnerable than Windows PCs and servers, such as Mac servers and workstations, and UNIX and Linux servers. For more information, see the security section of our
white paper on the major operating systems.
